Scouting and Purdue University have a shared history spanning decades. Eagle Scout Neil Armstrong attended Purdue before carrying a World Scout Badge to the surface of the Moon. He’s one of countless Boilermakers whose character was shaped by Scouting long before they ever set foot on campus.

We want to highlight how our organization has contributed to Purdue University and local Scouting through three pillars: Service, Leadership, and Fellowship.

Service

In the 2025-26 academic year, Scouting Purdue contributed 526 hours of service to the Sagamore Council through the following events & projects:

  • Cub Haunted
  • University of Scouting
  • University of Scouting Mobile App Development
  • Council Annual Recognition Luncheon
  • Mom & Me Cub Scout Weekend
  • Cary Camp Sound System
  • Scouting 4 Eggs

Scouting Purdue also had our first ever Council Shoulder Patch (CSP) sale and with the incredible support of our community, we raised $2114 for the Sagamore Council to directly benefit local Scouting.

Leadership

“There is no teaching to compare with example.” Sir Robert Baden-Powell’s words continue to ring true today and this year, Scouting Purdue put them into practice. Our Executive Board grew our organization’s reach, planned events, and coordinated fundraising and budgets while the Pinewood Derby Committee brought a scouting classic to campus for the first time ever.

In addition to providing leadership opportunities, Scouting Purdue hosts alumni to share insights and lessons they’ve learned over the course of their careers.

Gary Lehman, Chairman on the Purdue Board of Trustees

Chris Jones, Director of Robotic Power Tools at Stryker

Fellowship

Our organization seeks to bring together Purdue students, faculty, and staff who share an appreciation for Scouting and how it shaped their lives. Through fellowship events we’ve created a close-knit group dedicated to spreading the values of Scouting.

We foster fellowship through:

  • Campouts
  • Hikes
  • Movie Nights
  • Game Nights
